Faith + Creativity

Faith + Creativity

I had the perfect plan. Go away to an amazing artist residency for two weeks and come back home with a consistent body of work (or the beginnings of one). Button up the work and apply to some art galleries. Obtain gallery representation in order to more successfully connect my art with the folks that want/need it in their spaces.

Good plan, right? Well, I did in fact go away to an amazing artist residency, shoutout to Chalk Hill! I'm still basking in the glow of that experience and know that the time spent there was such a precious gift. However, I have yet to secure space for my work in the gallery of my dreams :)

Truthfully, beautiful paintings or not, there have been countless times in my artist journey when I feel like I'm back at square one, including right now. Once again, I'm  trying to figure out why I'm painting, what I'm painting, and who I'm painting it for. A deeper sense of clarity and focus in my art, in LIFE, is something I'm really craving. Call me crazy, but I feel like you might be able to relate?

Perhaps my work will be the perfect addition to a lovely gallery someday, but now is not my time. I'm glad I tried. With all new things, you have to start somewhere, right? Being reminded that gallery representation isn't the ultimate goal, I'm settling into that deeper desire for clarity and focus, however that comes about.

Wandering around in the space of feeling stylistically unsure of where my art is headed and which lane to stay in (should I be choosing just one?), there are a few things I'm certain of...

  1. Ultimately, I'm painting for an audience of one. The Creator himself put this creativity within me. He will continue to help guide me to the folks he wants to bless through my art.
  2. No matter what, I love COLOR! As I'm still in an extended phase of exploration within my painting, I might not share current "experiments" until I'm feeling more ready. But don't be surprised if you see lots of paint palette photos and COLORS in the meantime :)
  3. It's time to write a book. God put that desire there, so I'm stepping out in faith. The topic is...drum roll please...FAITH & CREATIVITY. What?! You guessed it? It's true. Lots of dreaming, brainstorming and prayers have gone into it and the outline is written. But I still have so far to go. However, I'm so excited to share more with you as this book project unfolds.
